Derek 'Bones' 2

Bones talks to one of his street friends about the Jets game. The conversation gets heated as they voice their discontent about the game's outcome.

Derek, nicknamed 'Bones' was living on the streets by choice for nearly 20 years. He wears his favorite pair of skeletal-design gloves, the same pair of gloves that got him his nickname.

"In this kind of weather you need a good pair of gloves and booze."

Bones' spot is in between a flower shop and a liquor store on West 8th Street, New York City. He says that he drinks to keep him warm.

He recently rented an apartment for $300 a month, but still comes out to panhandle. He says he does it to remind himself that "this is where I came from." He used to box and play football. He also worked with paramedics.

"I had to pull a body out of the river... it was pretty nasty shit."
